When there is an injury, compression, or irritation of the nerves or blood vessels (or both) in the lower neck and upper chest area, which is the thoracic spine, the condition is called Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. The condition is common in individuals who perform repetitive motions of the arms and shoulders, typically dentists, chiropractors, and surgeons. Symptoms include neck, shoulder, and arm pain, numbness, or impaired circulation to the affected areas.
The Cleveland Clinic provides information on symptoms, causes, and treatments of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome.
Additional information is on the National Institute Health’s National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke website.
The disability law firm of the Law Office of Justin Frankel has worked with several claimants suffering from Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, many of whom are dentists, doctors, chiropractors, and surgeons. We protect our clients when disability insurance companies ask for invasive medical exams or make benefit payments contingent upon surgical procedures that are not always the claimant’s first treatment choice.
